I know how all‑consuming gastroparesis can feel. For many years after I was diagnosed in 2004, my world revolved around trying to manage my symptoms and find a way to fix my stomach. It was overwhelming, isolating, and despite all the effort, I was feeling more frustrated and increasingly unwell.
Over time, I learned that living well with gastroparesis does not come from perfecting a symptom‑management plan or endlessly searching for a cure. What most of us actually want from treatment is a life where symptoms do not dominate every thought, where we have enough energy and freedom to do the things we enjoy with the people we care about.
For the past 15 years, I’ve worked as a coach and educator supporting people with gastroparesis in moving toward that kind of life. Now I’ve created an on-demand, self-paced program, in the same style as my coaching, to help you do the same.
This isn’t a one-size-fits-all rulebook or an overwhelming list of things you have to do or try. It’s more like a series of conversations with a very well-informed friend who’s been where you are and wants to help you make thoughtful choices that allow you to feel better and get back to your life.
You’re not alone.
Let’s figure this out.
When I created this resource, I imagined what I’d say if a good friend called and said, “I’ve been diagnosed with gastroparesis. I’m overwhelmed, afraid, and I have no idea what to do.”
Throughout the four main videos, I’ll share the same kinds of do’s, don’ts, and decision-making guidance I’d offer a friend or coaching client, along with the context for why they matter and how to adapt them to your own situation.
We’ll talk about…
what’s actually going on with your stomach, what it means to “have gastroparesis,” and the keys to effective symptom management.
how to eat to reduce symptoms while prioritizing nutrition and well-being, plus why dietary modification “works” and what to do when it doesn’t.
the habits, activities, and behaviors that might be making symptoms worse, and other habits, activities, and behaviors that can help alleviate them.
how our beliefs, expectations, and anxieties around gastroparesis, food, and symptoms impact our experience of the condition, and what to do when things feel uncertain, stuck, or hopeless.
I want you to get everything you personally need out of this conversation, so from there, it’s a bit of choose-your-own adventure. There are shorter chats, covering topics like pregnancy, constipation, reflux, weight struggles, socializing, travel, and more.
I’ve also created a Self-Advocacy Workbook, so I can walk you through practical considerations like building the right care team, exploring treatment options, creating a support network, and tracking what actually helps you over time.
So, pull up a chair. We have a lot to discuss, but you’ll come away feeling more confident, less worried, and with a clearer sense of how you can feel better and regain a sense of normalcy.
This program is designed to support your medical care, not replace it. Always work with your healthcare team when making treatment or nutrition decisions.
